Dr Bikes: in your community for everyone, and at workplaces for employees
As the country enters the next phase of the response to the crisis, Cycling UK has committed to extending this offer across the country via pop-up bike mechanics delivering Dr Bike sessions in local communities for everyone, and at workplaces over the summer and into winter 2020.
I'm a mechanic, how can I get involved and deliver Dr Bike events?
If you're an independent bike mechanic, part of a team in a bike workshop, or not for profit cycling organisation, you can apply for a grant of up to £3000 to deliver the programme and provide Dr Bike sessions.
Grants will be provided to organisations through an open application process. Those organisations who have delivered the Big Bike Revival programme in 2020 are welcome to apply for the latest tranche of funding to deliver Dr Bike sessions to build on what they've already achieved.
Organisations need to demonstrate that they are able to provide:
- Qualified and experienced mechanics to complete free bike health checks to ensure cycles are safe to ride.
- Equipment to carry out minor adjustments and replace some small parts if required, e.g. brake cable and pads, puncture repair/tube replacement, adjusting gears.
- Where bikes require further servicing or larger repairs, the owner will be sign-posted to a local retailer participating in the Government Repair Voucher scheme, which compliments the project.
The next phase of the Big Bike Revival Dr Bikes programme will run in England between October 15 2020 to January 15 2021.

I am an employer, how can I get involved in holding a Dr Bike event for my staff?
If you are an employer and are interested in hosting a Dr Bike session at your workplace, where possible we’ll match you with one of our delivery partners near you. Alternatively, tell us about a local bike mechanic you already know, who’d be interested to deliver Dr Bike events for your employees.
