Your local Cycling Development Officer (CDO) is here to help you get the most out of cycling – however you want to ride.

Got a question or want to take part? Jordan’s here to help – just get in touch.

Hello! I’m Jordan, and I love cycling across the North East – a region with coastline, countryside and character in every direction.

From riding along the North Sea coast in Roker and Tynemouth to pedalling the old railway lines that stretch across the region, there’s something for every kind of cyclist. Whether you're just starting out or rediscovering the joy of riding, there’s always a new place to explore.

The Big Bike Revival is here to break down the barriers that stop people from cycling – whether that’s not knowing how to fix a bike, feeling nervous about riding, or simply not seeing cycling as something for you.

Cars are still the main way many people travel here – but that’s starting to change. I’ve seen first-hand how powerful it is when someone realises they can ride, fix, and use a bike to get to work, save money, or just feel better.

You don’t need lycra, expensive gear, or any experience – just turn up and we’ll help you get rolling.

What people say

Since 2015, thousands of people across Newcastle and the North East have benefited from The Big Bike Revival. Here are inspiring stories of how cycling has made a difference.

Helen McIntosh: The Real Yellow Jersey winner who beat the bus with an e-bike

With three kids, a full-time job and studies to juggle, she needed a change. A trial ride on an e-bike opened the door to a new daily routine that brings fitness, freedom and joy.

Now commuting by bike three times a week, Helen says it’s transformed her mornings, helped her sleep better, and made her feel more connected to her city.

She’s one of Cycling UK’s Real Yellow Jersey champions—ordinary people doing extraordinary things through cycling.

Linda: Learning to ride at 70

At 70, Linda Billett only recently learned to ride a bike—but she hasn’t let a few tumbles hold her back.

Supported by her husband and inspired by pro cycling, Linda joined a Big Bike Revival group ride in Newbiggin by the Sea to build confidence and enjoy her new hobby.

It was such a pleasant, confidence-building experience. The leaders were so supportive, and I felt no pressure

Now, she’s working toward becoming a confident leisure rider—proof that it’s never too late to start.
