What people say

Since 2015, thousands of people across the South West have benefited from The Big Bike Revival. One of them is Matthew Goodman – a winner of Cycling UK’s Real Yellow Jersey award, which celebrates individuals using cycling to overcome personal challenges and inspire change in their communities.

Matthew: A Real Yellow Jersey winner from Plymouth

Through The Big Bike Revival, Matthew didn’t just rediscover cycling – he found a new sense of purpose.

After connecting with Bikespace, a Plymouth-based social enterprise supporting young people and vulnerable adults, Matthew began volunteering, learning bike maintenance, and leading rides. His passion grew into a mission: helping others find freedom, confidence, and connection through cycling.

Now named one of Cycling UK’s Real Yellow Jersey winners, Matthew is recognised for his work empowering refugees, women, and those recovering from addiction to embrace cycling as a tool for change.

I was going to buy a car, but realised the bike gave me more – freedom, joy, belonging
