Whether it’s fixing up an old bike, learning to ride as an adult, or joining your first social cycle, Ian supports local events that break down barriers and get more people pedalling.

If you’ve got questions, want to find local sessions, or are simply curious about how to get started, Ian’s here to help. Drop him a message – and take the first step on your cycling journey.

Hello! I’m Ian – and I love cycling in Suffolk.
What makes cycling here so special is the landscape – big skies, coastal lanes, quiet villages and rolling countryside. Whether you're exploring the Deben Valley or heading out along a traffic-free trail, there’s something for every kind of rider.

But I also know that cycling isn’t always an easy option. Suffolk’s rural geography can make it harder for people to get started – especially if they’ve never ridden before or don’t have access to a working bike.

That’s where our community sessions come in. We’re here to help people build confidence, learn new skills and enjoy cycling in a way that fits their life – whether that’s fixing up an old bike, riding with others for the first time or simply discovering a local route that feels safe and manageable.

One of the most rewarding parts of my role is seeing those lightbulb moments – like when someone realises they can ride a bike again, even after years away from the saddle. I’ve seen people ride to work for the first time, reconnect with nature, and even make new friends along the way.

If you’ve ever thought “cycling’s not for me” – give it a try. We’ll meet you where you are and help you take the next step.

What people say

Since launching in Suffolk, The Big Bike Revival has helped hundreds of people build confidence, learn new skills and rediscover the joy of cycling. One of them is Julie, who joined a local Big Bike Revival session to brush up on basic bike maintenance—and found the support she needed to keep pedalling with confidence.

An older woman dressed in a red jacket and white trousers poses proudly with her vintage-style black bicycle, decorated with Union Jack flags and bunting. She is smiling, wearing a helmet and Converse trainers, and stands on a paved patio in front of a stone wall and greenery.

Julie: Pedalling with pride and new skills

Julie Thompson from Suffolk has discovered a new sense of independence and joy through The Big Bike Revival.

Julie took part in a basic bike maintenance session run by a local organisation, where she learned practical skills like checking tyre pressure, fixing a puncture, and keeping her chain clean and oiled.

These simple but essential techniques gave her the confidence to take better care of her bike – and keep enjoying the freedom it brings.

I feel much more confident about maintaining my bike, which I love. And I feel very happy because the events I attended will help me look after it.

Now, with her new skills and renewed enthusiasm, Julie’s pedalling with pride.
