Free cycling activities in Norfolk

A group of cyclists ride along a quiet country lane lined with bare trees in winter. The riders are dressed in bright jackets and helmets, with the lead woman in yellow smiling confidently. The road is wet and bordered by grassy verges and wooden fencing, suggesting a cool, damp day in the countryside.
From friendly rides through the Broads to basic bike repairs in your local park, Cycling UK is here to support your cycling journey every step of the way. Across Norfolk, we’re working with community groups to run free, inclusive sessions that help more people get cycling

Hello! I’m Ian – and I love cycling in Norfolk.

What makes cycling here so special is the sense of space and tranquillity – from riverside routes and winding country lanes to quiet coastal roads and nature-rich paths through the Broads.

Norfolk is a brilliant place to explore by bike, but I know that for many people, it can still feel out of reach. The rural spread and limited transport options in some areas can make everyday journeys difficult without a car.

That’s where The Big Bike Revival makes a real difference.

By offering free, friendly sessions through our amazing local partners, we’re helping people build confidence, gain practical skills and discover how cycling can open up new opportunities. Whether it’s learning to ride, fixing up a bike or joining a welcoming group ride for the first time – we’re here to help.

If you’ve ever thought cycling isn’t for you, I’d love to show you otherwise. Everyone starts somewhere – and with the right support, the journey can be life changing.

Dan and his team deliver friendly, welcoming bike repair sessions as part of The Big Bike Revival, helping people in Norwich get back on their bikes safely and confidently. For Dan, it’s not just about fixing bikes – it’s about community, connection and creating a joy for cycling that lasts.

What people say

Since 2015, thousands of people across Norfolk have benefited from The Big Bike Revival.

One of them is Linda, who rediscovered cycling after 30 years – and found a new way to manage her health, build confidence and connect with others along the way.

A woman in a bright yellow jumper smiles as she stands with her hybrid bike beside a lake. She is wearing black leggings and trainers, and the scene is surrounded by greenery and overcast skies.

Linda: “I didn’t think I could – now I’m riding 28 miles”

Linda wanted to get active to help manage her type 2 diabetes but couldn’t find an activity that stuck – until she discovered The Big Bike Revival.

After seeing a local session advertised, she decided to give cycling another go, even though she hadn’t ridden in more than 30 years. “I didn’t think I could do more than a couple of laps,” she said, “but I felt this was something I could actually enjoy.”

With support from the group – including loan bikes and friendly encouragement – Linda’s confidence and stamina grew quickly. She now cycles to work, has bought her own bike and completed the 28-mile Tour de Broads.

Cycling has brought me a new group of friends. With 28 miles done, 30 or even 35 doesn’t seem impossible
