About us

Cycling UK Stevenage organises more than 200 local rides every year.  There will be a ride for you.

Currently the ride programme is limited due to Covid-19, the rides that are currently planned can be found on this page

Usually the group has Saturday Starters which are ideal for newcomers, two hour Morning Meanders on Sundays, other varied Sunday rides and the very popular Wednesday evening rides all year round.  There are also Friday Flings in the summer months.

Social events include a BBQ ride, a Curry Crawl ride, a Pizza Night ride, a Teddy Bear's Picnic ride, a Santa Cycles ride, and a Christmas lunch ride.

We organise events such as Emitremmus Desrever; the Stevenage Start of Summertime Specials (SSoSS); Stevenage Circular and off road challenges.

Rides update

At our committee meeting on 3rd March we agreed that the rides will restart from 29th March with groups of 6 without a planned stop.

Cafe's are now able to accommodate groups of 6 outdoors, some rides may have planned stops

It is worth noting the following:

  • Sport England has published guidance confirming that organised sport and activity includes group cycle rides, so group rides of more than six are allowed from 29 March onwards under the organised sport and activity exemption.
  • Cycling UK’s general advice to clubs pre-Covid was to restrict group rides to a maximum of 15 people, however currently we are advising that this should be treated as an absolute maximum for group rides, not a target number, and that people should exercise some discretion and common sense depending on where they are riding.

Although rides are allowed with more than 6 riders, our position at the present time is that we will limit our rides to 6. This will avoid potentially unpleasant conversations at cafes and when the group stops for any reason, for example, a mechanical incident.

When Club rides start again each ride will consist of the leader and up to 5 riders – a group of no more than 6.
Places must be booked.
In order to book on a ride please contact the leader in advance.
Please note that a ride may already be fully booked so be sure to check for confirmation that you have a place before turning up.
