Roaring Meg South and Stevenage Retail Park Access Survey
Cycling UK Stevenage have undertaken a survey of walking, wheeling and cycling accessibility for the Roaring Meg South and Stevenage Retail parks south of Broadhall Way.
Full details with pictures and maps have been prepared for 2 sections:
- Dunhelm to Halfords - accessed from London Road
- The Range and Wickes - accessed from Monkswood Way
Planning permission for these retail parks was granted before current SBC and HCC policies to promote Active Travel were put in place.
Accessibility is very poor - for example:
- A person cycling to Halfords - a cycle retailer - has to use the London Road including negotiating the roundabout near Dunhelm.
- A person wheeling or using a mobility aid to go between CareCo company - a mobility equipment retailer - and Dunhelm has to go on the road linking the 2 stores.
- The picture in the gallery below is shared with permission from the man shown. He was waiting for his wife who was shopping in The Range. As a mobility aid user he could not access the store.
We are sharing this survey with councillors from both Stevenage Borough Council and Hertfordshire County Council asking them to press for improvements with the site owners.
Information about our campaign to improve accessibility to the main Roaring Meg site can be found here.
