Shift resources
Cycling for short journeys
The Shift Resource Pack has a multitude of resources to help support people making short journeys by bike. Some exercises can be done individually whilst others can be used in a group setting or tagged on to a led ride or other activity. Some resources provide advice and information to support cycling for short journeys.
Simply look at the index matrix on the second page of the Resource Pack and click the topic you are interested in.
What is a short journey?
In Scotland, 50% of journeys between 1km and 2km are made by car. We want to encourage and enable people to try and make those journeys by bike. They don’t have to be every day and can be combined with other forms of public transport. The goal is to work towards creating cycling communities.
A short journey could be for:
- Errands, local shops and appointments
- Work
- To and from public transport
- Library or other service
- Education, school runs and childcare facilities
- Vacation
- Visiting friends or relatives
- Attend leisure activities
