The Big Bike Revival is a national programme that supports adults to build the skills, confidence, and motivation to cycle more often. Established in 2014, it is designed to help people overcome practical and personal barriers that stop them cycling. The programme guide provides a comprehensive overview, the essentials are: 

What’s the aim?

Events aim to enable cycling, by presenting it as a practical, normal, and achievable way to travel locally, whether for work, errands, or family life.

Who’s it for?

Adults are supported to begin cycling, return after a long break, or cycle more often as part of everyday life. When accompanied by a participating adult, children can join family activities, ideally at a ratio of one child per adult.

What events are expected?

Based on the FIX-LEARN-RIDE model event types are; basic repairs to make cycles safe and useable; teaching essential maintenance skills and learn to ride sessions; short local rides on quiet pathways, for participant to practise skills, build confidence and learn route planning  

Who delivers?

Community embedded partners that include volunteer-led groups, social enterprises and not-for-profit organisations.

How much funding can I apply for?

Up to £3,500 per application is available.

When is the delivery period?

From 03 April 2026 to 30 October 2026.

How long are applications open for?

From 27 February 2026 until 01 June 2026. Depending on capacity they may close earlier.

Step 2: Contact your local Cycling Development officer

Before applying, you must contact your local officer to discuss plans and availability of regional funding. Officers are there to help, missing this will delay the process.

 

Step 3: Quick checklist.

Tick all the following items before you begin.

  • You’ve read the application guide
  • Your organisation is based in England (excluding London)
  • You can deliver events between 3 April and 30 October 2026
  • You will target adults: beginners, improvers or returners
  • You have event dates and details at the ready
  • Events are additional to any regular activity
  • You know which FIX, LEARN, RIDE event types you will deliver
  • You have your budget breakdown
  • You have your organisation's bank details to hand
  • You can upload a bank statement dated within the last 3 months
