Haddington

Group ride

Event description

Cafe lunch stop.

This Sunday’s ride is a 38 mile route comprising of several loops in East Lothian starting and finishing at Fisherrrow Harbour Musselburgh, and stopping in Haddington for lunch.

Please assemble at 9.50am for a 10.00am start at Fisherrow Harbour.

On leaving Musselburgh we will hug the coast taking the path past the ash lagoons before turning left onto the B1348 and then right up past the Prestongrange Mining Museum. We will then make our way through the upper part of Prestonpans, cross the B1361 and follow surfaced tracks to Tranent where we will have a WC stop (6 miles). Thereafter the route takes us on country roads to New Winton, Boggs Holdings and on to Samuelston. Next we will skirt round the south side of Haddington, past Colstoun House, eventually to join Route 76 taking us into Haddington from the east (21 miles). I have booked a table at Diggory’s, which has a good selection of soups, sandwiches, scones etc. including vegan options, and will confirm the numbers on the day.

After lunch we return to Samuelston and shortly thereafter follow Route 196 to East Saltoun, then descend to Pencaitland before going on to New Winton and Tranent. We will climb Fa’side Hill before descending, crossing the A6094 and returning to Fisherrow via the path which crosses the site of The Battle of Pinkie (1547).

All of this route is on surfaced roads except for about a mile on the path which passes the lagoons. It should be manageable for all cycles though.
