Meet your Cycling Development Officer for Greater Manchester

Greater Manchester is Gosia’s home – and the place she supports communities to get cycling.

As our CDO for the region, she helps local organisations set up and grow Community Cycle Clubs, giving people welcoming, low-cost ways to ride more often.

Gosia works with clubs across this network to reach people who are less likely to cycle, support volunteers and leaders, and make it easier for everyone to discover local routes, build confidence and enjoy life by bike.

Club spotlight: Horwich Ride Social

At Horwich Ride Social, many women start out nervous about balance, gears or riding in traffic. Over friendly six-week programmes like Sofa to Saddle, they build up from gentle park loops to confident road rides with signalling, hill starts and even a bit of gravel.

The club offers women-only and mixed social rides at different levels, from easygoing to challenging, across Horwich, Bolton and beyond. It’s a great way to grow your skills, meet new people and keep riding together after the course.

Meet your Cycling Development Officer for Lancashire

Laura works with local groups to set up and grow Community Cycle Clubs.

She supports community leaders and volunteers with practical help – from planning rides and training ride leaders to connecting them with funding, bikes and equipment.

Covering all 15 districts of Lancashire – from Blackpool’s seafront to Lancaster, Preston and the rural towns around the Forest of Bowland – Laura meets people who care about their communities and want to help others start cycling.

Her role is to turn that enthusiasm into welcoming, well-supported clubs so more people, from more backgrounds, can ride regularly where they live.

Club spotlight: S.A.S Rights

Meet Saima Afzal, founding director of S.A.S Rights in Blackburn and leader of a Cycling UK Community Cycle Club that’s also a delivery partner for another Cycling UK project, The Big Bike Revival

In this video, she explains how their women-led group supports mainly South Asian women to build skills, confidence and friendships through learn-to-ride sessions, gentle group rides and time to chat over a brew.

Together, their Community Cycle Club and Big Bike Revival activities create a welcoming wellbeing hub where you can try cycling at your own pace, meet new people and choose what feels right for you.

Participant spotlight: Paul’s story

Paul’s journey began at Damien John Kelly House in Liverpool, a recovery centre that ran a Community Cycle Club. Joining his first ride there gave him the push he needed to begin turning things around.

Through volunteering, ride leading and bike repair, Paul discovered the power of cycling not only to transform his own life, but also to support others on their recovery journey.

Watch the video to hear Paul’s inspiring story in his own words.
