Shift

A woman is riding a black hybrid bike with a rear rack on it on an urban street. She is wearing black trousers, a stripy top and blue denim jacket. She has long red hair, a turquoise cycling helmet and sunglasses.
When more people ride bikes, the whole community benefits. Shift awarded organisations and community groups based in Scotland grants of up to £1,500 to enable more people to travel by bike

Shift ran from 2021-23, offering grants of up to £1,500 to organisations and community groups in Scotland to help more people to travel by bike. The project funded more than 100 organisations and community groups across Scotland, supporting more than 17,500 people to start cycling for local journeys.

About the scheme

Shift provided expert guidance and funding for organisations to run a variety of activities enabling more people to cycle for local journeys. Activities ranged from cycle training and confidence boosting sessions to route planning and led rides to maintenance sessions and cargo bike trials for local businesses.

Since attending the event and borrowing an e-bike, I now no longer take my car to work, or to my call outs as an on-call fire fighter

Such an amazing event for bike maintenance. It has improved my skills tenfold and I am so grateful that it was organised. Thank you. My confidence out on the road has also increased as a result
