On 5 May, there were elections for the local authorities of Wales. Cycling UK asked council candidates to pledge to champion active travel, and enable local changes through national policy

Getting there with cycling - make it happen

On 5 May, there were elections for councillors in Wales’ 22 local authorities. Cycling UK Cymru asked council candidates to get on with creating the high-quality safe cycling networks needed to enable everyone to cycle.

Our vision is a Wales where more everyday journeys are active travel journeys, where our countryside is more accessible, our communities connected, our air cleaner and our health and wellbeing are prioritised.

Our Manifesto for Cycling

We asked political parties, councils and candidates to adopt the 9 asks in our election manifesto and thereby truly deliver for cycling.

Our key priorities:

  • Build capacity to deliver on the ambition of the Active Travel Act
  • Prioritise cycling to schools with school streets, Bikeability training and separated cycle routes
  • Ensure that cycling is accessible to all wherever they live
