British Cycle Quest

Fed up with riding the same old circuits? Feel like going on an adventure? Take on the BCQ and discover new places all over Britain.

What is the British Cycle Quest?

The purpose of the quest is to visit all 402 checkpoints dotted throughout Britain. Checkpoints are scattered throughout England, Wales and Scotland including many islands.

This is a challenge you've got the rest of your life to complete - there are no time limits - and you're on your way as soon as you've cycled down the road and located your very first checkpoint. It is all about getting outside and cycling to find as many points of interest across the whole of Britain as you can. It’s a brilliant way to motivate yourself to get on your bike and go exploring, so why not start planning your routes?

How do I get started?

Find Checkpoints

We tell you where the checkpoint is – you choose your own route to get to it. Start with the questions book or the map at the bottom of this page, work out which checkpoints are nearest to your current location, then get on your bike and go!

Answer Questions

Once you find a checkpoint, all you need to do is answer the corresponding question to prove you've been there. You can submit your answers using our online form. Answers can be submitted at convenient points in your BCQ journey, we suggest batches of five answers at a time.

Our validating officer, Stephen Dee, will check your answers, confirm your checkpoint score, and advise of any certificates or medals you qualify for.

What are the rules?

You are expected to arrive at each location on your choice of cycle, but we don't mind if you drive or take the train to the general area.

You can do BCQ with someone else, please let us know if you are and if you want to share a medal.

During the coronavirus pandemic, some checkpoints may not be as freely accessible as they normally are due to national, local and/or organisational restrictions. The November 2020 update of questions has some changes due to checkpoints no longer being accessible. Some now have access information to assist. If you find you cannot get close enough to a checkpoint to obtain the answer, please take and submit a photo of your bike and a sign that says you are there.

We hope you have some great times discovering BCQ checkpoints and finding places you might otherwise never have visited.
