Group of people riding

Woodthorpe 3rd April 2024.

Ride Report: John Rickett.

With the good shepherd Tim having ventured into the darkest reaches of Norfolk, it was left to the wayward flock to organise themselves into a coherent group and choose a ride. One of the group had arrived early (no guessing who that was) and he can’t be named for legal reasons but his initials are Paul Linder, so given his eagerness, he was quickly promoted to leader.

In consideration for the wellbeing of the remainder, namely Martin Woods and John Rickett, Paul elected to lead the group to Woodthorpe. The weather was marginal with drizzle on and off, with little sign of prospect of improvement from the weather forecast, however the trio set off at 10.00 and were pleasantly surprised when the rain eased and blue sky started to appear. The outward journey was via Stewton Lane, the Carltons and Gayton Top. By the time Woodthorpe had been reached, the temperature was climbing and rain jackets were packed away.

Fortified with the obligatory bacon rolls, egg on toast and coffee, the group made their way to Rye Lane, Galley Hill and Claythorpe where we bade farewell to Paul for his return to Alford. The duo of Martin and John returned to Louth via Muckton and Little Cawthorpe in a slowing rising temperature.

About 25 miles for the round trip in much better weather than forecast – all the bikes may need a clean again given the muddy roads encountered, but it is rural Lincolnshire so we won’t complain.
