Stevenage Glow Ride 2 - Thursday 22 October 2026

This campaign ride is part of the Cycling UK 'My ride. Our right' mass glow rides night of action.

Together with communities across the country, we’ll light up the night and call for safer streets and better cycling infrastructure, especially for women riding after dark.

In Stevenage we will focus on the lighting of the cycleway network.

To coincide with Glow Ride 2, we will be publishing a "Cycling After Dark in Stevenage" report following an audit of social safety and lighting on our main cycleway routes.
We are seeking women to help with this audit process which will start in mid-September.

Thursday 22nd October - Glow Ride 2

We will gather at Event Island between Danestrete and Town Square from 6pm onwards ready for the ride to start at 6.30pm.

Our 6.5 mile ride will use some of the best of Stevenage's historic cycleway network as well as highlighting some areas where women are less inclined to cycle particularly in the darker months.

About the route:

  • The route is nearly all on cycleways but some sections are uneven and will have Autumnal debris, leaves and acorns etc.
  • The ride will be in the dark so good cycle lights are essential. Lighting on cycleways is generally only from streetlights over adjacent roads and 25% of the route is entirely unlit including a one mile section in the park.
  • This event is designed for adults. If a child does attend, then they will need to be closely supervised by an adult who will remain with them for the whole ride - with one adult per individual child.
  • Marshalls will guide participants but we will need to follow all traffic regulations sharing the space with pedestrians, vehicles and other cyclists.

The Cycling UK ‘My ride. Our right’ campaign is focussed on issues women have raised, but men are welcome to ride with us.

‘My ride. Our right’

We believe cycling should feel liberating, not intimidating. But sadly, that’s not the case for everyone.

Women make half as many trips by bike as men, and are more likely to be put off cycling by a fear of busy traffic.

Women shouldn’t feel forced to choose between a busy road and a dark isolated path. There should be a route that feels safe and welcoming.

This isn’t just about transport - it’s about equality, opportunity and giving more people the freedom to ride.

Because when we make cycling safer for women, we make it safer for everyone
