Kirmington September 2023

Cycling UK Louth’s Sunday Ride to Kirmington.

Ride report by John Rickett:

The stalwarts in Paul and myself met at the Meridian Centre under unpromising skies and gusty winds. Paul insisted that the rain had now passed, I wasn't so sure, however as it was clear that it would be a quite a push when returning from Kirmington, we decided to follow the route as far as Beelsby and then cut straight across to the Thoresway crossroads, via Croxby, to pick up the route again. This would cut out about 20 miles of the route but still give an interesting ride, with a few hills thrown in - because that's what Paul likes.

The rain held off and even a few patches of blue appeared. We stopped at Waltham Windmill for coffee and cake, where we met a couple who said they used to ride a lot and asked if we knew John Ambler, the chap's name was Pat Burgess.

The skies grew a bit grey and threatening near Thoresway, though Paul's earlier assessment that there wouldn't be any more rain, proved correct and we completed the route without having to don wet weather gear, in fact it got quite warm.

Although obviously windy, the only part where we really had to push was on the exposed road between the North and South Elkingtons.

So, Cycling UK (Louth) continued to fly the flag and without using a drop of petrol, despite the abrupt abandonment of the plan by some members in favour of a nice, comfortable Sunday drive!
