Glow Ride 2026

At the start - Let's Glow!

On Thursday 22 October 2026 nineteen glowing women went for a ride from the St Albans Civic Centre along some Active Travel Fund infrastructure and around part of the Green Ring and back to the start.  As last year, a storm was coming in from the west, but not quite so quickly and we got round in the dry.

The St Albans Deputy Mayor Cllr Juliet Voisey and the Hertfordshire County Councillor whose division we were mostly cycling through, Cllr Helen Campbell had both accepted our invitation to join the ride, and for Councillor Campbell there was a very pleasant surprise - the roadworks that the recce had identified as taking place on the ride date turned out to be resurfacing that Cllr Campbell had been asking for, we can confirm that section of the ride was delightfully smooth.  The ride demonstrated some of the good things we have - the contraflow cycle lane and the traffic signals at a main road junction, the extension of the 20mph area - as well as the inadequacies of older infrastructure, such as the very narrow shared pavement with the very tight turns on the Harpenden Road section of the Green Ring.

Our ride was one of more than 90 Glow Rides happening across Great Britain and was one of two taking place in Hertfordshire, the other one being in Stevenage.  We had a good write-up in advance from the St Albans Times.
