HCC Elections 2025 - Question 1 Responses

Question 1

The current HCC Local Transport Plan includes a clear commitment to ensure modal shift from the private car to sustainable transport including walking and cycling.
What measures would you take to advance this modal shift and ensure cycling is a safe and easy option for everyday journeys both within Stevenage and to nearby towns and villages.

Modal shift from car to bike or walking is vital, but with Stevenage's Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan now more than 5 years old, and with LTP5 in preparation, we must make sure that we get the chance to update the LCWIP to provide more and better opportunities for sustainable transport that can go into LTP5.  We will also prioritise discussions with Highways and officers in the Active Travel teams at HCC to ensure that they make full use of opportunities to bid for grants to provide improved infrastructure, and push them, and local planning authority partners to explore other funding opportunities, from S106 allocations in every planning application to more ambitious bids from government sources.
