Townhill Country Park
Sunday’s ride is to the lovely loch at Townhill where there is a café on the shore. On a previous visit we were entertained by water-skiers. We will have urban and park cycling in the morning and countryside and coast in the afternoon. We meet on the cycle path on bridge at Roseburn at 9.50am for a prompt start at 10 am and head out and across the Forth Road bridge by the most straightforward route via Cramond and Dalmeny. We will stop for the loos at the Park and Ride on the north end of the bridge. Then we will head up via Inverkeithing to Rosyth park, Pitreavie industrial estate and then into Dunfermline. We will traverse Rex Park and zig zag up through Dunfermline Park and the periphery of Dunfermline cemetery and eventually take up a cycle track to the loch.(19 miles) After lunch we will head through Townhill park and then loop round westwards via Bowershall. Time for some downhill stretches now to head for the coast at Charlestown and Limekilns. Then back across the bridge and onto the railway path and roads eventually back to the A90 underpass and Miller and Carter at Cramond. My lead will end here. ( 41 miles- its another 4 miles back to Roseburn)
Here is the route:
Please note that apart from a small section on the coastal path at Limekilns this route is all on roads or tarmac cyclepaths but many of the cyclepaths have wet leaves on them which could be slippery so we will keep to a modest pace on these sections.
Sunday’s weather at present looks fair with a moderate north wind which should help us on the return journey across the bridge.
