Ride from Southwick to Ovingdean and over the Downs to Hove

9 November 2025
Local Group Event

Event description

On Sunday 9th November there will be a shorter ride, most of it on good traffic-free tarmac cycle paths and quiet roads.  It will be a relaxed ride and good for anyone who is new to cycling, or hasn’t ridden for a while.

Meet at Port Kitchen, Adur Dock, 104 Albion Street, Southwick BN42 4DP at 09.45.   Leave at 10.00 and head east on the coastal bike path (National Cycle Network Route 2) to Ovingdean.

We will then take a quiet road and tarmac cycle path over the Downs to Woodingdean, Falmer and Stanmer. We will pick up the traffic-free Ditchling Road cycle path to Surrenden Road and Preston Park and onward to the coast. We will end at the Sunshine Café at Hove Street, Hove for a cheap and filling lunch!

Distance: 40 kms (about 25 miles) and about 300 metres ascent.

If possible, please contact the organiser by email via the link below if you would like to join us on this ride.

If you plan to come on any of our rides, please make sure your cycle is in a roadworthy condition. Don't forget your lights! Bring a puncture repair kit, spare inner tube (or as appropriate for tubeless tyres), essential tools, a mobile phone if you have one, snacks and enough to drink, sunscreen/waterproofs/warm clothing as appropriate. Please follow Cycling UK guidance, and check with the ride leader (Organiser) about the distance and hilliness of the ride if you are unsure. Please be prepared to give contact phone numbers at the start of a ride. Let the ride leader know if you have a medical condition that might affect your ride.
