Cairneyhill

Event ride

Event description

Today's ride is ON.

Despite the weather warnings, the weather outside my house is remarkably snow and ice free at this moment!  I will be at Roseburn to meet anyone who would like to come along, and we will see how it goes. We may encounter some sleet in Fife and if its too unpleasant, we can turn back early. So if you are planning to come along, be prepared for changes to the route and distance. It will be very cold so wrap up warm!

Best Wishes,
Janet.

This Sunday’s ride will be an easy paced ride, 40 miles in total, starting and ending at the cycle path on the bridge crossing the A8 at Roseburn . This ride can be shortened by car assistance to Cramond-Miller and Carter car park where you can pick up the ride about 10.20 am, (32 miles total) or car/train to Inverkeithing where you can pick up the ride at the toilet stop in the park and ride at the north end of the bridge at around 11.15 am. (about 17 miles total) This is therefore an ideal opportunity for anyone who hasn’t been out for a while, or new members to come along. Do let me know by text 07974113737 if you plan to pick up the ride at one of these places or anywhere else on the route.

We will head out via the cycle path next to the A90, Dalmeny and onwards to the Forth Road Bridge. After our toilet stop at the park and ride at the north end of the bridge, we will head upward to Inverkeithing, Rosyth and through Pitreavie Business Park to Pittencrieff Park. This will avoid most of the increasingly busy Grange Road.

Then we go through the park and onto the West Fife Cycleway where we can enjoy a flat traffic free ride and know that its downhill all the way from now on! Now it’s time to zoom down to Fairley’s Garden Centre at Cairneyhill for our lunch. After lunch we will take a return route through Broomhall Estate for a change (a track in places) then head back down to the bridge. On the south side of the bridge we can return via the railway path and Burnshot road to Cramond where we can retrace our route back to Roseburn.

Sunday’s weather looking fair at present!

Riding in a group requires consideration for others in the group and the leader and back marker. Our riding guidelines are essential reading prior to coming out on the ride to ensure safety for yourself and the other riders. https://www.cyclinguk.org/group/page/guidelines-safe-riding

Do take note of my phone number in case you get separated from the group. 07974113737

Please make sure your bike is roadworthy and that you have 2 spare inner tubes and basic tools to change an inner tube. You will need to have water, money for tea/coffee/lunch and a bike lock. Remember you are riding at your own risk and whilst the group will always try to help out as best as possible, you are responsible for looking after yourself and getting yourself home.

Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday!

Janet.
