We Walk, We Cycle, We Vote in Scotland

Cyclists in Scotland are joining 'We Walk We Cycle We Vote'
CTC is co-leading 'We Walk, We Cycle, We Vote', a collaborative campaign for the Scottish elections in May 2016. The campaign focuses on three areas that we believe will deliver lasting, positive change for Scotland: Investment, Infrastructure and Safety.

The 2016 Holyrood elections offer us the chance to transform Scotland into a healthier, wealthier, happier country. 

We Walk, We Cycle, We Vote is a united umbrella campaign of cycling and active travel groups across Scotland, led by CTC, the national cycling charity, and Pedal on Parliament. 

We are asking all candidates if they will support the following three promises which we believe will bring about a transformation of our lives and those of our children:

1) Investment: Provide sustained, long term investment in both cycling and walking, reaching 10% of the transport budget
2) Infrastructure: Build and maintain dedicated cycling infrastructure, enabling people aged 8-80 to cycle
3) Safety: Promote and deliver safer roads for both walking and cycling

We'll be encouraging delegates at each of the Scottish party conferences to join us and local cyclists on a short bike tour to experience the reality of active travel in Scotland's cities today - and to demonstrate the sort of interventions that can make cycling and walking the obvious choice for all short journeys.

Organisations supporting the campaign are Camglen Bike Town, the Cycling Embassy of Great Britain, Cycle Law Scotland, the Edinburgh Festival of Cycling, GoBike, Paths for All, Perth ByCycle, Scottish Cycling, Spokes Lothian, Sustrans Scotland, Recyke-a-bike and Arria Wheelers - and the list is growing almost daily!

  • Contacting your local political groups and asking them to support us
  • Coming along to the party conference bike rides in October (details are on the Facebook)

Over the next couple of months we'll be developing a website with campaign materials, the evidence base for what we're campaigning for and practical ways that you can support the campaign.
