Zoe Portlock
Founder of Bikeworks CIC
With east London hosting the 2012 Olympics, Zoe saw a once-in-a-lifetime chance to use cycling as a tool for good. From her kitchen table, what became Bikeworks began to take shape – a sustainable social enterprise using cycles to tackle inequality. Nearly twenty years on, it delivers over 50,000 cycling experiences a year, bringing investment, opportunity and real impact to overlooked communities, and its London All Ability Clubs have nearly tripled participation in the past three years.
“My journey shows how cycling can build community, belonging, and wellbeing – no one should be left behind when it comes to accessing the benefits of cycling. Every gifted bike, club session, and training programme is proof that a simple idea, grounded in vision and values, can create lasting, meaningful change.”
