As a child, Yo hated cycling, sweating through hot summer rides in France, struggling to keep up with her family. But in 2013, she embraced a role with Sustrans - initially motivated by environmental concerns, she soon discovered cycling’s broader benefits: financial, health, and social. At Sustrans and Bedford Borough Council, she worked with schools to spark a love of cycling early; through balance bikes, learn-to-ride sessions, and School Streets. Now, Yo has a strategic role in expanding cycling schemes at the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, and she also serves on Bedford Cycle Campaign’s Board to help create safer streets for future generations.
