Victoria Hawkins

Local cycling campaigner in Edinburgh

Raised in the Netherlands, Victoria enjoyed the freedom of cycling independently to school and friends’ houses, but when she came to the UK she stopped riding her bike. Then, in 2021, she and her partner sold their car to show their children they were committed to their future and prepared to make changes to give them a better life. Victoria quickly realised her children didn’t have the same access to safe cycling as she had growing up – so she started campaigning locally in Edinburgh. She also worked with Museum of Edinburgh, co-curating an exhibition about cycle activism with other cycling groups.
