Veerle Noben

Local organiser and cycling development officer

Sometimes people assume that if you’re from Belgium, you’re automatically a cyclist. Veerle wasn’t, until she moved to the UK in 2019 – when she says she became a ‘proper cyclist’. She did this because she chose to not have a car to live as sustainably and environmentally as possible. In lockdown she started a job riding a cargo bike, and her career working in cycling has progressed quickly since then – she’s worked in various roles on a freelance basis, as well as a role as a Cycling Development Officer at Cycling UK, with a focus on getting more women cycling.

“I organised Newcastle’s first Fancy Women Ride and have never looked back since. This is my mission!”
