Lorraine Murrell

Lorraine was a late comer to cycling, having been inspired by seeing a group of friends riding LEJOG. Since taking up cycling in 2018, she quickly appreciated the many benefits and realised her love of taking on a challenge. She has since become an inspiring leader, mentor and advocate for grassroots participation.

As the first female Chair of Newbury Road Club (NRC) in its 100-year history, she's helped to lead the transformation of the Club - growing female membership to 30%, and a key part of a team that launched the NRC Women's Rides Group which won West Berkshire's Community Champion Group of the Year in 2021.

Lorraine's passion is infectious. She has personally recruited many of NRC's members and remains a hands-on presence - organising events, supporting individuals and fostering a culture where no one gets left behind. Her leadership was also pivotal in the inaugural Newbury Cycling Festival in 2025 and in bringing the first Glow Ride to Newbury.

More than just a cyclist, Lorraine is the heart of a thriving, inclusive community. Her impact is lasting, personal and widely felt.

"Newbury Road Club is far more than a cycling club. It's a connected, compassionate community that looks out for every rider and leaves no one behind."
