Pat Strauss is part of Cycling UK's 100 Women in Cycling 2019 list for her many years as Vice Chair of CTC (now Cycling UK) and 32 years of leading cycle tours.

Pat started cycling in her early 20s as a way to meet other like-minded people. In fact she met her husband that way!

When they both moved to England, they had the same goals, wanting to see a new country by bike.

Pat said: "Within a few months I started up a new, mostly train-assisted, cycling group in central London, and gradually moved up through the 'ranks' to being on the CTC Council and eventually a Vice President.

Much of my time was spent working for better conditions for cyclists

"Much of my time was spent working for better conditions for cyclists, particularly in London where I was one of the initiators of the London Cycle Network.

"For several issues of the CTC magazine I contributed a regular feature promoting cycling for women."

Since 1987 Pat has led over 60 tours for the CTC, helping other like-minded cyclists to explore many parts of the world, from Alaska to New Zealand.

Pat said: "Cycle touring for me is a wonderful way of participating in an outdoor activity at whatever level I find comfortable, along with enjoying the social side of sharing it with others, whether travelling abroad or just down lanes near where I live.

"It makes me feel more a part of wherever I am and lets me stop where and when I like to look at something more closely … and to take lots of photos, satisfying my other passion in life."

Pat has dedicated much of her life to the promotion of cycling. Maintaining contact with those who have been on tours and encouraging others to join.
