Cycle Access Fund strand 5: Cycle parking and storage FAQs
Use the questions below to find out who can apply, how the funding works, and what’s expected from applicants and bike recipients under this strand of the Cycle Access Fund.
1.What is the Cycle Access Fund Cycle parking and storage strand?
This strand is to fund cycle parking and cycle storage facilities. You may use the funding to purchase facilities such as a shed, shelter or cycle rack, or for enhancements to existing facilities, such as shelves, hooks or additional racks.
2. Who is eligible to apply for this strand of the Cycle Access Fund?
We recognise that having access to a secure place to keep your cycle will greatly improve the likelihood of it being used; this fund can be used by organisations wishing to make their facilities more attractive to visitors on bikes, or who wish to encourage more of their employees, students or residents to use active travel.
Additionally, it can be used by organisations who provide a bike recycling or repair service and wish to expand their outputs, but currently lack the space to do so.
The funding is not available to individuals, only organisations. In 2025-26 we are funded by Regional Transport Partnerships to work in specific regions of Scotland, not the whole country. You can check your local authority here. We can fund organisations for work which is carried out in the following local authorities:
- Aberdeen City (only ‘repair’ strand is available)
- Aberdeenshire (only ‘repair’ strand is available)
- Argyll and Bute (only Helensburgh and Lomond District)
- City of Edinburgh

3. What can the grant be used for?
The purchase and/or enhancement of cycle parking or storage facilities. We have detailed guidance on choosing the most appropriate kind of solution for you. A non-exhaustive list of eligible items includes:
- Cycle lockers
- Cycle sheds
- Cycle shelters
- Bike racks, such as Sheffield stands, or indoor racks
- Enhancements to existing storage, such as hooks, shelves, or additional racks
- Groundworks, installation, and transportation costs required to start using the storage
Due to the nature of this funding, we cannot fund storage rental or repairs to storage.
