Couch to Coast by Derby and Burton CTC - Runner-up

2018 is the second year Derby and Burton CTC has run their Coach to Coast programme.

The classic 100 mile route from Derby to Skegness seems daunting for the first time cyclist - but for Derby & Burton CTC it's a piece of cake, preferably in a café along the way. 

New riders are encouraged to take on the challenge of the route by starting small - from April this year Derby & Burton CTC held gentle rides starting at 10 miles, and building up gradually to the big challenge in September this year. 

This simple but brilliant programme has successfully introduced many more cyclists to the joys and benefits of cycling more frequently, and challenged and inspired those who start to achieve the 100 mile Derby to Skegness route. This year over 45 cyclists took part, with friendly and experienced cyclists leading every bit of the way.

For Derby and Burton's commitment to building the confidence of new cyclists, Cycling UK are very pleased to add them to our shortlist this year. 

Cycling UK's Volunteer of the Year Awards are given annually to recognise and celebrate all the incredible work volunteers do in encouraging others to start cycling and keep cycling.
