Ask your MSP candidates to support cycling in Scotland

We believe that cycling should be for everyone in Scotland. From a child learning to ride using a balance bike, to an older person visiting friends on an e-bike, everyone should be able to enjoy the benefits of cycling.

With election day fast approaching, now is the time to reach out to your MSP candidates and ask them to give their commitment to supporting cycling.

We want candidates to support the three key asks in our Manifesto for Cycling:

1. Invest in cycling
2. Create safe space for walking, cycling and wheeling
3. Enable rural communities to cycle

Over 3,000 of you sent a positive message to politicians by backing our recent petition in support of these asks.

Now it’s time to take the next step. Our candidates’ action tool makes it simple to check whether your constituency and regional list candidates have pledged their support for cycling.

We’ve made it easy for you to write to those who haven’t, to let them know that you want cycling to be enjoyable, safe and commonplace in Scotland.

Please take a few minutes to complete the action as it’s so important that the people who want to represent you know cycling matters to their voters. 

Every candidate who pledges their support will help us ensure the next Scottish government moves towards a future where more people can cycle, walk and wheel for pleasure and everyday journeys, and where people who already cycle feel safe and able to do so more often.

You can also question politicians from all major parties on their commitments to cycling, walking, wheeling and public transport at our online Cycling and Sustainable Travel Hustings on 20 April at 7pm, which we’re hosting alongside Pedal on Parliament.​

The online Question Time-style event will be chaired by Catriona Stewart, chief reporter of the Glasgow Times. She will ask the questions and manage what we hope will be a lively but constructive debate of manifesto transport commitments.

The hustings will cover sustainable travel in general as well as cycling because we are also concerned about creating a more sustainable transport system.
