Cycling UK invites riders and supporters to get involved in the 'Bike Week Brunch'
This Bike Week (June 8–15), Cycling UK is running the “Bike Week Brunch”, an opportunity for supporters, cycle clubs and community cycle groups, to host a fundraiser and support the charity’s efforts to introduce others to the benefits of cycling.
Through programmes like the charity’s Big Bike Revival, Cycling UK provides free cycle skills, fix sessions and led rides to beginners or people who don’t cycle regularly, reaching more than 700,000 people since 2014.
Run by Cycling UK for more than 100 years, Bike Week is the UK’s biggest celebration of cycling and a chance to show how cycling can make everyday life better for people and communities across the country. Throughout the week, the charity has outlined two main ways for supporters and clubs to get involved this year:
- Host a Bike Week Brunch – a simple, sociable way to celebrate Bike Week and support Cycling UK
- Join The Big Bike Revival – free, friendly local sessions to help adults build confidence, build skills or get back into cycling
While not all groups taking part across the country will involve a ride, people are encouraged to get active and involve local people that are new to cycling. The Bike Week Brunch fundraiser has been designed to be flexible, welcoming and easy for supporters to make it their own and can include anything from coffee and cake during or after a ride to a workplace breakfast, bake sale, community get-together or brunch with friends.
Rebecca Milliburn, Head of Fundraising at Cycling UK, said:
“Cycling is one of the most affordable ways to get around, yet thousands of people across the country still feel there are barriers to making those journeys. Over the past few years, we’ve made incredible strides in pushing for better transport choice, alongside our work introducing more people to cycling. Whether it’s changing the British Transport Police’s policy on bike theft or tackling the gender divide through our campaign My ride. Our right. we’re always making the case for healthier, more affordable journeys. But that work depends on the communities who believe in it as much as we do.
“If you want to celebrate Bike Week, a Bike Week Brunch is a brilliant way to build momentum locally and get people riding. It brings people together, helps raise funds for our charitable work and sends a clear message that communities are keen to cycle more. Sign up to host a brunch this Bike Week and help us keep making the best case for more journeys by bike.”
By registering a Bike Week Brunch on Cycling UK’s website, supporters will receive a Bike Week Brunch fundraising pack with ideas, tips and resources to help you get started, spread the word and raise money in a way that's fun and enjoyable.
(All registered events and associated rides during Bike Week are covered under our events insurance, thanks to Bikmo – open to both members and non-members.)
