Search for Scotland’s ‘Cycling Champions’ underway

Nominations are open for Scotland's annual Cycling Champion of the Year awards, which recognise the individuals and organisations that have contributed significantly to cycling in the past 12 months

The search for Scotland’s Cycling Champions has been launched by Scotland’s four cycling organisations – Cycling UK, Cycling Scotland, Scottish Cycling and Sustrans Scotland.

The Cycling Champion of the Year Awards are Scotland’s national cycling awards and recognise the individuals and organisations that have contributed significantly to cycling at a local or national level in the last year.

Members of the public are being asked to submit nominations using a newly streamlined nominating process across six categories:

  1. Visionary Champion
  2. Community Champion for sport and recreation
  3. Community Champion for everyday cycling
  4. Young Champion
  5. Business Champion
  6. Cycle Shop of the Year.

  • G64, a family-run bike shop committed to supporting social and environmental causes.

Why Scotland's Cycling Champion of the Year Awards matter

With record levels of investment in active travel, and growing excitement ahead of the 2023 World Cycling Championships, this is a hugely exciting time for cycling in Scotland

Christopher Johnson, Cycling Scotland

Christopher Johnson, Head of Education and Training at Cycling Scotland on behalf of the organising committee said:

"With record levels of investment in active travel, and growing excitement ahead of the 2023 World Cycling Championships, this is a hugely exciting time for cycling in Scotland.

"Cycling delivers huge benefits, not only to local communities but can also make a significant contribution to tackling wider global issues.

"In previous years, we’ve celebrated those individuals, communities and organisations that have made a significant impact and we’re looking forward to receiving some excellent nominations in 2022."

How to nominate

Closing date for nominations is 1 August 2022.

The nomination process has been streamlined, making it quicker and easier to vote.

You can submit multiple nominations.

Winners will be selected by a panel representing the four partners of the awards: Cycling Scotland, Cycling UK, Scottish Cycling and Sustrans Scotland.

Please note that employees of the awarding organisations (Cycling Scotland, Cycling UK, Scottish Cycling and Sustrans Scotland) are not eligible for nomination as individuals.

However, should an employee of an awarding organisation contribute to a cycling or community organisation outside of work, that organisation is eligible for nomination.
