A Sunday Ride 18th January 2026
Cycling UK Louth Sunday Ride 18th January 2026Ride Report: John Rickett ... 3 hardy souls braved the January gloom today. Alan Hockham, Ty Harness and John Rickett met up as usual at 10.00 for the planned ride to Tetney Golf Club and/or The Crown & Anchor at Tetney Lock. Rain had been falling since dawn but had just about stopped by departure time. The roads of course were wet with puddles that stretched right across in places. It was mild for January though so, well wrapped up, no-one was really feeling the cold. Nevertheless, a hot cup of coffee was to looked forward to at the golf club. On arrival the clubhouse looked a bit dark but we could see people inside so that was a good sign, unfortunately there was no catering, the people inside were just sheltering from the cold. We were informed that the previous caterer had quit in November though a new one was planning to man the bar and kitchen in February. Slightly disappointed the trio put Plan B into operation for a stop at Tetney Lock, only 5 miles or so away. On arrival. the lights could be seen and cooking smells coming from the kitchen. Alas the doors were locked, a sign stating that opening time was 12.00 - it was now 11.15. Nothing for it than to continue with the route and get a cup of coffee and snack back at the leisure centre. Third time lucky at it was, of course open, not only that but our intrepid leader was just approaching the front door having survived a cattle-class journey from distant Tenerife, now eager to check on his charges. It seems that although not cycling much recently in Blighty, he thought nothing of hiring a new, full carbon BMC road bike ride for a day to try out the moonscape hills of Los Abrigos! ... he's promised that he will ride on Wednesday to Farmer Brown's.
