Stevenage Glow Ride - 22nd October 2025

Wednesday 22 October 2025

Cycling UK is organising a national night of action on  for mass glow rides linked with the  ‘My ride. Our right’ campaign.

Joining with other communities across the country, we’ll light up the night and call for safer streets and better cycling infrastructure, especially for women riding after dark.

Our Stevenage Glow Ride will start at 6.30pm

We will meet by 6.30pm at Event Island between Danestrete and Town Square - this is a few minutes walk from Stevenage railway station. Our short 5- 6 mile ride will include some of the best of Stevenage's historic cycleway network as well as highlighting some areas where women are less inclined to cycle particularly in the darker months.

About the route - watch a video filmed in daylight here (speeded up to show the entire route)

  • 75% of the route is on cycleways, 25% is on roads shared with traffic. The whole route is on tarmac but some sections are uneven and have Autumnal debris, leaves and acorns etc.
  • The ride will be in the dark so cycle lights are essential. Lighting on cycleways is generally only from streetlights over adjacent roads and there is one section that is just over 0.5 miles that is entirely unlit across the park.
  • This event is designed for adults. If a child does attend, then they will need to be closely supervised by an adult who will remain with them for the whole ride - with one adult per individual child.
  • Marshalls will guide participants but we will need to follow all traffic regulations sharing the space with pedestrians, vehicles and other cyclists.

The Cycling UK  ‘My ride. Our right’  campaign is focussed on issues women have raised, but men are welcome to ride with us.

Please sign up on Eventbrite if you plan to join the ride - and share the poster to let others know.

‘My ride. Our right’

We believe cycling should feel liberating, not intimidating. But sadly, that’s not the case for everyone.

Women make half as many trips by bike as men, and are more likely to be put off cycling by a fear of busy traffic.

Women shouldn’t feel forced to choose between a busy road and a dark isolated path. There should be a route that feels safe and welcoming.

This isn’t just about transport - it’s about equality, opportunity and giving more people the freedom to ride.

Because when we make cycling safer for women, we make it safer for everyone
