Roaring Meg Planning Comments

Proposed North South Link's access from South car park - Image from Design Access Statement by Mountford Pigott May 2025

We have now done a formal submission of comments on the current Roaring Meg Planning Application.

We acknowledged the engagement that we have previously had with the developer in our first paragraph:

We would like to thank the developer for the engagement that we have previously had with them as mentioned in the covering letter for this application. We note that some of the issues that we raised, along with invis-Ability CIC have been addressed in this application. However, we remain concerned that access for cycling is still an issue and as the retail offer is becoming more diverse it is essential that this is brought up to current standards. It is for this reason that we are submitting an objection to the planning application in its current form.

We gave detailed reasons for our objections and then in our closing paragraph emphasised that we are keen to continue the dialogue to improve accessibility at the site:

Cycling UK Stevenage acknowledges that the developer has a stated wish to improve connectivity for people cycling and would welcome the opportunity to discuss ways that this could be done without the cost and upheaval of the north-south link road for traffic. Measures to enable more people to cycle to Roaring Meg would indeed alleviate some of the pressure on the carparking.
