Cycling UK Ride to North Thoresby 23rd November 2025
Ride Report: John Rickett.
Enthusiasm … seemed to be in short supply today. Just three of us met up for a 10 o'clock departure to Landmark Cafe and then onto North Thoresby Village Hall - Ty Harness, Paul Linder and John Rickett. Even our leader was conspicuous by absence.
I suppose due to the weather conditions at the time, two of our number put forward a proposal to miss out the Landmark section (or was it the bit of a hill immediately before) and ride instead directly to North Thoresby. To be fair, Paul had already ridden in from Alford in the drizzle, so the lack of spirit was understandable, just. Menacingly out numbered 2:1 the motion was carried and we set off on the ride. The early rain had just about stopped, indeed by the time we reached Fulstow, the sun was making an appearance.
Arriving at dead on 11.00 the village hall doors were open and one table already occupied. The signs outside confusing stated open 10-3 and others 11-3. It transpired that 11.00 is the correct opening time. Two pumpkin soups were ordered and one scone (or is that scon?) The scones were just being taken out of the oven, can't be fresher than that. I'm advised that the pumpkin soup was well up to standard.
By the time we were ready to go again, there was more blue sky than grey and the roads were beginning to dry, so no need of the wet gear for the return to Louth.
On entering Louth, a slight detour was made for Ty to show us the planter he had made and donated to Louth Youth Centre. Apparently it’s full of slumbering daffodils but should look quite different in the spring.
One last coffee at the Leisure Centre and then it was time for Paul to make a hasty retreat if he was to make it back to Alford before the next band of rain arrived. The forecast for Wednesday is marginally improved.
