Group of people riding

Cycling UK Louth Wednesday Wander to Mablethorpe.
Ride Report: John Rickett.

The forecast was not particularly good for today’s ride to Mablethorpe, nonetheless Paul Linder rode into Louth from Alford against a headwind to meet up with John Rickett at the leisure centre. Alan Hockham appeared near Little Carlton and the other diehard, Steve Croton, who had earlier advised he would join the group at Woodthorpe, was duly waiting for us.

With the temperature at 9 degrees, it felt a bit chilly especially as there were only glimpses of the sun in an otherwise overcast sky. Earlier rain had ceased and the roads were drying up, however Paul decided that the restaurant at Woodthorpe garden centre would provide a nice lunch after he had perused the plants, so said good bye to the group there.

The threesome carried on through Beesby but somewhere between Hagnaby and Trusthorpe the drizzle started which soon became steady rain – we were all getting wet and cold by the time we reached Mablethorpe. A better option, as it had indoor seating, was Mables café instead of the Coral café, our originally intended destination.

Three dripping cyclists were still welcomed by the staff with our orders for hot coffee being quickly served. Fortunately the rain had relented by the time to leave but Alan and Steve chose the shortest route home, by now the temperature had dropped a degree to 8.

The current holder of the ‘Billy No-mates’ cup put his time-served experience to good use and continued with the prescribed route, albeit in drizzle again through Theddlethorpe, Saltfleetby and Howdales, but took the more direct route home to Fotherby via North Cockerington, Alvingham and Little Grimsby.

Here's one of the group who was not sorry to be home, it felt more like November than May, let's hope our leader is getting better weather on his holiday in Denmark, but maybe not!

(Ed: Remarkably for Jutland, Aarhus has been warm and sunny all week with 16 Degrees).
