Historic Churches Trust Ride and Stride 2026 (Louthesk)

Ride and Stride Saturday 12th September 2026

Having missed out on last year's event, Tim Newbery was looking forward to visiting as many churches as possible, having been very kindly sponsored by Revt. Robert Mansfield and Church Warden Dorothy Mansfield from St Andrew's Church, Stewton. 

The plan was to visit up to 18 churches, although the weather forecast wasn't too inspiring with outbreaks of rain expected not long after 11 am along with a strong westerly wind gusting up to 30-35 mph. Fairly warm however with top temperatures around 20 Degrees Celsius. Tim would need to be back at St James' Church Louth before it closed its doors at 4 pm.

The first church to be visited was St Andrew's Stewton where a wide variety of cake was on offer along with tea and coffee. It would have been impolite not to have sampled the fine fayre. The homemade Marmalade Cake was delicious. Bearing in mind however that 7 other churches on Tim's route would also be offering refreshment!

All Saints' Legbourne had displays of the fascinating history of the church and village, as did many of the other churches on the route which included the following churches of St John the Baptist at Great Carlton and St Mary's at Manby. Particularly impressive were the nine 15th century roof angels, each carved from one single piece of oak and rare early 17th Century bible at St Edith's Grimoldby.
