About us
Langport Cycling Club (LCC) began in July 2018, when a small group of friends started meeting on Saturday mornings to enjoy relaxed rides through the quiet lanes of South Somerset, always with a good café stop for coffee and cake in mind. Word soon spread, and more riders joined our weekly outings from The Bridge Café in Langport.
Over the years, we’ve been known as Wessex Wheelers and Bridge CC, but in 2023 we officially became Langport Cycling Club, joining British Cycling and Cycling UK. Today, we’re proud to have more than 100 members, men and women ranging from their early 20s to over 80 - a wonderfully diverse and welcoming community.
Information about the group rides
We ride all year round, offering a variety of routes and groups to suit different distances and paces, typically starting from around 20 miles. Saturday mornings are our main meet-up time. We have a ‘no-drop’ policy and never leave anyone behind.
Another of our most popular rides is the 6 pm Thursday Wobble - a sociable after work ride taking in a different local pub each Thursday for a drink and sometimes a bite to eat. Our home pub is Eli’s in Huish Episcopi, where Ryan, the landlord (and fellow rider), always gives us a warm welcome.
For the more adventurous, we run occasional long rides of 100 miles or more, often taking up a whole day. We also organise drive-and-ride day trips, travelling to destinations about an hour from Langport to enjoy new scenery and routes.
Once or twice a year, we host a dedicated club cycling weekend, exploring areas beyond our usual routes. Past trips have included the Cotswolds, the New Forest, the Wye Valley, and Barnstable. We also run a couple of annual overseas adventures to Mallorca, where we take on mountain climbs under the warm Mediterranean sun!
We’re a friendly, inclusive club and always keen to welcome new members. If you’d like to find out more or join us for a ride, please get in touch, we’d love to hear from you.
