Berkhamsted Cycling Club

Berkhamsted Cycling Club is a Cycling UK affiliated community sports association for road cyclists covering Berkhamsted and surrounding areas in the Chilterns. We are passionate about road cycling and aim to provide fun, fitness and challenge. Even though we are just 10 years old, we have over 200 members, making us one of the largest local cycling clubs in Britain. But don’t be put off by our size, as we are well known as a very friendly club.

About us

Our membership is diverse and starts from 16 years of age and includes all age groups and capabilities with a high percentage of women. As a community based club our ethos is inclusion so we provide social rides through to competitive performance cycling including time trials, hills climbs, crit racing and more. We actively participate in a wide range of sportives and our members are prone to organising interesting cycling excursions! Even though we are a road cycling club we have many members who also enjoy MTB and gravel riding.
So, if you are interested in cycling please contact us or come down one Saturday morning for a fun try out. All we ask is that you can manage a minimum of 12 mph average on a road bike.

Information about the group rides

Club rides take place on Saturday mornings with a ride briefing at 7:45 am and a “grand départ” (we leave!) at 8:00 am from Berkhamsted Tesco car park (Water Lane, Berkhamsted HP4 3FG).

Routes details are emailed during the week before and are available from the club route library in Ride with GPS (RWGPS). At least two riders per group should have the route.

New riders are welcome to do a trial ride. Just make yourself known to the Ride Co-ordinator so we can look after you and make sure you go out in the appropriate Ride Group. We recommend you email the Ride Co-ordinator in advance, particularly if weather conditions are forecast to be 2 degrees or below or high winds/heavy rain, as the ride may be cancelled.

Club rides are social group rides (not races!). We ride in small groups (max 10) and don’t leave anyone behind. We encourage good group riding discipline both for our safety and out of consideration for other road users.
Please Note that cycle helmets are mandatory.
