Sunday June 21st. Train + Ride: Finsbury Park, Epping Forest Ride, Lee Country Park Ride
44 miles, 80% paved, +2,121ft climbing.
The route is ideal for touring bikes, hybrids, gravel bikes, and mountain bikes. A mixture of cycle-paths, residential streets, bridleways, towpaths and quiet lanes; unpaved sections are hard-packed fire trails in Epping Forest, and towpaths. This is quite a hilly route, with plenty of climbs and descents!
Approximately 5 to 5.5 hours hours riding time, plus refreshment time.
Buy an off-peak return ticket from Stevenage (or Hitchin) to Finsbury Park.
Catch the 09.03 train from Stevenage railway station (08.57 from Hitchin) to Finsbury Park; journey time from Stevenage is 20 minutes.
Start outside Finsbury Park railway station at approx. 09.30.
Through Finsbury Park, Stamford Hill and Walthamstow to Chingford Plain and Epping Forest. Lanes and towpath to Lee Valley Country Park, cycle paths through the park, then quiet lanes to Brickendon, Bayford, Hertingfordbury, Bramfield and Datchworth.
Refreshment stops at: The Original Bikers Tea Hut (CASH ONLY, Epping Forest), Old Mill Retreat Cafe (Broxbourne), Dolly's (Datchworth Green).
Helmets are strongly recommended for all off-road rides.
