Saturday 3rd October. London Bridge Greenwich Dartford Ride (Train, Ride, Train)
42 miles, 85% paved, +1,440ft climbing.
The route is Suitable for touring, hybrid, gravel and mountain bikes; there will be no mud. A mixture of cycle-paths, residential streets, bridleways, towpaths and quiet lanes; unpaved sections are hard-packed bridleways and cycle-paths.
Approximately 5 to 5.5 hours hours riding time, plus refreshment time.
Refreshment stops at House of Visitors Book Cafe (Woolwich), Flo's Pie and Mash (Dartford) or Kenny's Cafe (Crayford), Blackheath Tea Hut.
Buy an off-peak return ticket from Stevenage (or Hitchin) to London Bridge.
Catch the 09.06 train from Stevenage railway station (09.00 from Hitchin) to London Bridge.
Start outside London Bridge railway station at approx. 09.55. Thames Path to Greenwich, Thames Barrier and Woolwich. Thames Path Extension to Erith and Dartford. Paths along Cray Riverway, Shuttle Riverway, Green Chain Walk, then quiet residential streets to Greenwich. Thames path to Southwark Park and then Cycle Super Highway back to London Bridge railway station.
Helmets are strongly recommended for all off-road rides.
