Thames Path to Dartford Loop
42 miles, 85% paved, +1,435ft climbing.
The route is ideal for touring bikes, hybrids, gravel bikes, and mountain bikes. A mixture of cycle-paths, residential streets, bridleways, towpaths and quiet lanes; unpaved sections are hard-packed bridleways and cycle-paths.
Approximately 5 to 5.5 hours hours riding time, plus refreshment time.
Buy an off-peak return ticket from Stevenage (or Hitchin) to London Bridge.
Catch the 09.01 train from Stevenage railway station (08.55 from Hitchin) to London Bridge; journey time from Stevenage is 43 minutes, with no changes.
Start ride outside London Bridge railway station just after 10.00.
Thames Path to Greenwich, Thames Barrier and Woolwich. Thames Path Extension to Erith and Dartford. Paths along Cray Riverway, Shuttle Riverway, Green Chain Walk, then quiet residential streets to Greenwich. Thames path to Southwark Park and then Cycle Super Highway back to London Bridge railway station.
Refreshment stops at Visitors Book Cafe (Woolwich), Flo's Pie and Mash (Dartford), Blackheath Tea Hut.
Helmets are strongly recommended for all off-road rides.
