Review: Kalas Cycling UK Men’s Jersey
Manufactured in the Czech Republic by Kalas, Cycling UK’s new jersey features the new colour palette and logo, which I think is a big improvement over the old one.
The jersey has a full-length front zip, maximising ventilation and simplifying pit stops if you wear bib shorts. The zip has guards at the top and bottom to prevent it tickling your skin. Orange fabric instead of black for the lower zip guard would have made the hem look slightly neater.
Silicone grippers at hem and arms keep the jersey from riding up. On the back there are the standard three elasticated pockets. There’s some reflective detailing here, and the right-hand pocket has a keyring clip.
The price is par for the course these days for a good-quality jersey in club colours, once you factor in the 15% Cycling UK member discount that takes it down to £84.15. Cheaper bespoke jerseys exist – Impsport’s are £65 – but £84 is not an outlier. My local club’s Nopinz jersey is £89.99.
The Kalas jersey is well stitched from lightweight, breathable fabric. I’d call the cut a race fit. I’m 10st 2lb (at time of testing) and have a 37in chest. That makes me ‘size 3’ on Kalas’s chart, which fitted but was snug. If you want a more relaxed fit, I’d recommend going up a size.
It’s machine washable at 30 degrees, like most bike kit.
Verdict
An up-to-date Cycling UK jersey that’s better looking than the last one, in my opinion. The price is comparable to other good-quality, short-sleeve jerseys in club colours. Breathability is good, fit fairly snug; consider going up a size if you’re not a racer.
