Review: Vulpine Women’s Regents Mac

A blue jacket hanging up next to a pink cycle helmet
Looking to stay warm and dry on the cycling school run, Senior Brand Officer Louisa de Albuquerque tested this female-specific waterproof cycling jacket from Vulpine and found much to like

As someone who cycles regularly – especially on the school run – this jacket has become a real staple. The Regents Mac has been perfect for early morning bike runs to drop the children off at school: I stay dry and warm without feeling weighed down or stiff.

It strikes a lovely balance between function and style. The cut lets me lean forward on the bike without feeling restricted, and the length gives great coverage without flapping around. The structured collar and streamlined shape also mean there’s no excess bulk around the neck - it feels secure and comfortable even on breezy mornings.

It’s not a technical, bike-specific shell, but it works beautifully for everyday commuting. And then once I’m off the bike and out on a dog walk, it feels just like a smart everyday winter coat rather than a cycling jacket. The navy colour and classic cut mean I don’t feel overdressed or out of place popping into the shops after a walk.

I love the pocket setup. There’s plenty of room for phone, keys, tissues, dog treats – all the essentials, and all within easy reach without fumbling. The subtle reflective details add peace of mind on darker mornings and evenings without turning the jacket into overly hi-vis cycling gear.

The only thing I occasionally wish it had is a hood for heavier downpours which we’ve had a few of this winter. The collar does a good job of keeping wind and light rain off, but in proper rain I do find myself reaching for a hat.

That said, the hood-free design is also part of what gives it that clean, polished look, so it’s a trade-off rather than a deal-breaker.

Verdict

This jacket feels like a quality piece I can wear throughout all seasons. The fit works well over layers without bulkiness – cosy but sleek. It’s a lovely hybrid that works well for a busy, active life that mixes urban cycling and everyday outdoor living.
