Beck Hair is part of Cycling UK's 100 Women in Cycling 2019 list for encouraging more women to get on their bikes.

As well as being a top athlete, a busy physiotherapist and a brand ambassador for Specialized, Becky Hair’s most important contribution to cycling is her continued commitment to encouraging and helping more women take to their bikes.

Becky leads weekly rides in Cambridge, she accompanies a variety of groups from chain gangs to beginners’ skill sessions, and she puts on bike maintenance courses. She also set up a Specialized Ladies Cycling group supported by Rutland Cycling Histon

In her spare time, Becky competes in triathlon, crit races and road races.

I love cycling, the freedom you get and the people you meet.

Becky said: “I started cycling because of my dad; he has always had a thing for road bikes. I got one of his old bikes when I went to university and promptly had it stolen after a few weeks.

“I was distraught but with the insurance, I managed to get a new one that actually fitted me - and from then on it was my prized possession! I commuted to uni, and then eventually got into triathlon while studying for my masters in physiotherapy in Birmingham.

“I love cycling, the freedom you get and the people you meet. The feeling of being on the bike on a quiet country lane, in the summer, descending a hill you never thought you'd conquer is the BEST feeling in the world!”

Becky was nominated for 100 Women in Cycling by Cycling UK’s Julie Rand, who said: “Becky teaches us techniques such as riding in a group, cyclists’ hand signals which encourages communication within the group, clipping in and out of pedals, bike maintenance and repair.

“She is such an inspiration to our group, she keeps us motivated and she is really going beyond her role as ambassador. Becky is always very positive and supportive.

“Following her as an athlete is inspirational and her work for the community is outstanding.”
