The Inverclyde Bothy encourages more people to walk and cycle on a daily basis. It's a collaborative project, led by Cycling UK, which is based at Gourock train station and is active across Inverclyde.

The bothy offers a range of activities - including health walks, bike maintenance classes, e-bike try-outs and led bike rides.

This route is a favourite of our team at the Inverclyde Bothy and makes a great day out for families!

The adventure starts at Gourock and you can travel along long the traffic free National Cycle Network as far as Inverkip Marina. Along this route, you hug the stunning Inverclyde coastline and Lunderston Bay.

Look out for the huge array of bird life and maybe even a submarine!  At the Marina, you rejoin quiet roads as you head towards Ardgowan Estate - where you can see the Ardgowan Castle

You then join the A770 to head back to Lunderston Bay - where you can rejoin the National Cycle Network. There is no cycle path along this stretch of the A770, so cyclists not confident on roads should push along this short part of the journey. You could reverse the route from the marina, if you wish.

What to bring

Bring your wildlife spotting book with you – particularly for the bird life!

Where to linger

Lunderston Bay is the perfect place for a stop to take in the views and have a snack!  A look at Ardgowan Castle is very worthwhile too, as is the Marina.
