Hounslow & District Wheelers

Group of people riding

We are an established sporting cycling club formed the 1930’s, with a rich history of success in both promoting and competing in Road Races and Time Trials, especially during the period between 1960’s and 1990’s. Currently however, most of our members are more focused on riding for pleasure. We are now based to the west of London. Our clubhouse is Staines Sailing Club, 105 Chertsey Lane, Staines-upon-Thames TW18 3LQ, where some of us meet every Tuesday night at 8:45 for refreshments and a chat. We have a full programme of Sunday club runs that leave Staines Bridge at 9.15am, aiming to return by 2pm. These rides vary in pace from a training Ride covering 60-70 miles without a break at a fast pace, to social rides of about 30-50 miles with a cafe stop at a more leisurely pace. Our various rides take place within a 20 to 30 mile arc from Staines upon Thames, through Surrey, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. There are also opportunities for retired members to join midweek rides on Tuesdays and Fridays. We have a programme of social activities including the Annual Club Dinner & Prize Presentation and our club camping/cycling holiday in August at Potterne in Wiltshire. Several times a year we publish the full colour club magazine the Quarter Wheeler. These are distributed by e-mail to those who have it and hard copies posted to those who do not. Past issues can be found on the club website. We operate a programme of time trials and Audax rides open to members and non-members. These include Thursday evening 10 mile time trials and 3 other Sunday morning club 25 mile time trial events in the Spring, Summer and Autumn, where you can enter on the line and have a go! Our Ron Brown Memorial Open 100 mile time trial, in May, must be entered in advance through Cycling Time Trials (CTT) ) See our website for the details of the club Racing Calendar. We also organize the well established 105k Audax London Sightseer event twice a year, midweek in June and Sunday in September. We pride ourselves on making new faces very welcome which, we believe, is why we have been a successful club. Our membership is made up of all ages of men and women, if you’d like to take a closer look, you are welcome to just turn up to the clubhouse on a Tuesday evening at 9.00pm or on Sunday at Staines Bridge at 9.15 for a clubrun.
